"A lunch idyll"
A review of The White Swan by Isle of Wight - Tuesday 13th of October 2009
The location is ideal the White Swan is in a pastoral setting alongside the Itchen and adjacent to commonland. We enjoyed a lesiurely drink at a table outside in the sun, then wandered in to puruse a menu offering chices ranging from light snacks to a several course meal. We were a largest famil party with differing expectations and tastes. However, we all agreed that the buffet carvery (roasts of turkey, ham & beef with a vegetarian option) were attractively set out. That the large selection of sides, which were replenished regularly, provided choices for all of us. The food was tasty. The restaurant, pub area, and outside seating facilities were very clean and well kept up. The serving staff were pleasant and helpful although more than a bit rushed at lunch time on a Monday. The downsides were that the tables in the carvery are more than a bit close, and although the setting and the facility would be conducive to lingering a bit, we felt that we must move on as soon as we finished our meals. A marked difference from the more relaxed atmosphere in the pub and the outside deck & patio areas. Perhaps it was due to being a weekday lunchtime and other diners had to return to work. Following on to lunch we took a leisurely walk along the river path. Will we return & do it again? Yes, although we may choose a table on the the edge of the Carvery .
